Herta was born in Cape Town South Africa. She immigrated to England where she lived for 10 years. From England she came to Canada in1970. That was 48 years ago. Since coming to Canada she has worked in offices for several companies from real estate offices to car dealerships and in the church office.
Eventually she returned to her first love which is music. She has taught piano and organ in our community for many years. Five years ago she officially retired which is to say that she has changed her activities . She remains active in the community through music and by continuing to write articles for the Chilliwack Progress from time to time. Two to three years ago she started a choir WITH JUST 6 MEMBERS. Since then it has grown to 24 members and there is room for more. Are there any wannabe choir members out there? Recently, she put on a program at the New Life Church in Sardis, “Hymns of Praise”. The event was well attended and enjoyed by all who came out.
This past year Herta made a decision about how to give back to her community in some way other than music. When she saw our advertisement that Chilliwack Senior Peer Counsellors (CSPC) was looking for volunteers she signed up for our course. She says it is one of the best things she ever did. At the moment she is enjoying her visits with her client and building the relationship that they now have.
We have enjoyed getting to know Herta and wish to say a big THANK YOU to her for volunteering with CSPC.

CSPC News Item
We have a class of volunteers being trained right now in the evening, our first evening class. This is new for CSPC as our training classes are normally in the daytime. They graduate on the 9th of May. Our waiting
seniors are eagerly awaiting that event. (Members are invited to join in the grad event and welcome the new counsellors.)
The course instructor is Rachel Doucette. (Helen, our lead instructor, has been busy as it’s now the tax season.)
Congratulations to Rachel for becoming a certified instructor for our Senior Peer training classes in BC!
Dropped into Rachel’s class and snapped a few pictures of the new comers to our volunteering group.
